Lately, I have been obsessed with cupcakes. I’ve been writing about them a lot these past few weeks for another publication and all I want to do is eat them continuously every day.

Red Velvet and Carrot Cupcakes from The Cupcake Bakery

Cupcakes are an all round favourite. Even the manliest of men enjoy a good cupcake or two. Fortunately, the worst cook can easily make cupcakes as they are quick and simple treats everyone can enjoy

The humble cupcake was first mentioned in American Cookery in the late 1700′s. They were designed as individual servings, first made in ramekins to be had with tea between lunch and dinner. In traditional Britain, the cupcake was referred to as the fairy cake because of its delicateness and light texture. Today, the Americanisation “Cupcake” has since taken over worldwide. Their popularity was a direct result of the simple four ingredients required to make them; sugar, flour, eggs and butter. In more recent times, the functionality of the cupcake has transformed into a trend thanks to specialty pop culture bakeries such as Magnolia Bakery in New York City.
